In the fast-paced world we live in, it's easy to find ourselves on autopilot, going through the motions without truly experiencing life. But deep down, we yearn for something more—a sense of purpose that brings fulfilment and meaning to our existence. In this blog post, we'll explore the transformative journey of finding your purpose (listen here on the podcast too), breaking free from autopilot, gaining perspective through tragedy, and building the tools necessary to live a fully conscious life.
Breaking Free from Autopilot:
Imagine driving on a long highway, the road stretching out endlessly before you. You engage the cruise control, and your car settles into a steady rhythm. As you relax, your mind starts to drift away, lost in thoughts, and before you know it, the passing scenery becomes a blur. You're operating on autopilot, disconnected from the present moment and unaware of the beauty surrounding you.
Much like the highway, life can sometimes put us on autopilot, where days blend together, and our actions become mindless repetitions.Finding our purpose requires us to break free from this cycle, to disengage the autopilot and reclaim our conscious presence.
When we choose to get out of autopilot mode, we have two options: slowing down or speeding up. Slowing down allows us to appreciate the small wonders that often go unnoticed in the rush of everyday life. It's in these moments of slowing down that we can connect with ourselves, reflect on our values, and gain clarity on what truly matters.
On the other hand, there are times when we embrace the option to speed up. We tap into our motivation and ambition, using them as fuel to accelerate towards our goals and dreams.
The key lies in finding the delicate balance between slowing down and speeding up. It's not an either-or scenario but rather a harmonious dance between the two. It's about navigating life with intentionality and making choices that align with our values and aspirations. By embracing both the moments of stillness and the bursts of acceleration, we create a life that is both fulfilling and purposeful.
Gaining Perspective through Tragedy:
Tragic events have a unique way of jolting us out of autopilot, shifting our perspectives and bringing clarity to our purpose.. Whether sudden trauma or a gradual accumulation of challenges, these moments disrupt our patterns and routines, shifting our perspectives and compelling us to reevaluate priorities and question choices.
Confronted with the reality of our limited time on Earth, we are reminded that life is unpredictable, shattering the illusion of permanence. The wake-up call propels us into heightened awareness, attuning our mind and body to the present with clarity.
Amidst challenges, we find opportunities for growth. Tragedy becomes a catalyst for self-reflection, stripping away superficial layers and delving into core values, desires, and beliefs. We gain clarity on our purpose and align our actions with what truly matters.
Building Tools for Conscious Living:
To live a purposeful life, we require tools that empower us to break free from autopilot and make conscious choices. Mindfulness, meditation, journaling and reflection are all ways to cultivate present-moment awareness.
It invites us to evaluate how we allocate our time and energy, and to consider the essence of who we are in each moment. It prompts us to reflect on not just what we are doing, but also who we are being.
By examining our schedule with a discerning eye, we gain a clearer understanding of how we spend our days and the impact it has on our well-being and sense of purpose. In addition to the external aspects of our schedule, it is equally important to examine our internal state while engaging in various activities. Are we present and fully engaged, or are we simply going through the motions? Are we bringing our authentic selves to the table, or are we wearing masks to fit societal expectations? Reflecting on these questions allows us to uncover opportunities for growth and transformation.
Finding your purpose is a journey of self-discovery, a quest to break free from the clutches of autopilot and embrace conscious living. Tragic events provide moments of reflection and can be catalysts for profound change in our lives. By building tools that keep us fully present and enabling conscious choices, we empower ourselves to live a life aligned with our truest intentions.
